Bad news for the Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, a.k.a. MCA.

Yauch posted an update on the band’s website earlier this month stating that he has not beaten his throat cancer.

“While I’m grateful for all the positive energy people are sending my way, reports of my being totally cancer free are exaggerated,” Yauch wrote. “I’m continuing treatment, staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future.”

In July 2009, Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland and later underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Yauch’s battle with cancer caused the group to delay the release of their new album, Hot Sauce Committee, and cancel some of their tour dates.

In a BBC Radio 1 interview with band member Mike D, the group is reportedly working on a short video and awaiting Yauch’s recovery so the band can tour again.

The Beastie Boys and fourteen other artists have been nominated for the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

The rules are simple. In order to be eligible, artists must have released their first album or single at least 25 years prior. Once the nominees are set, it takes at least 50 percent of the voting committee to induct them in.

Amazingly, this isn’t the first year that the Beastie Boys have been eligible. They were also nominated in 2008, because they released their first EP in 1982. (However, their first single–”She’s on It”–didn’t come out until 1985 and it wasn’t until 1986 that their first album, Licensed to Ill, was released).

Other nominees for the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Chic, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Tom Waits and Chuck Willis.

The inductees will be announced in December, and the award ceremony will be held on March 14 at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria.

Check back soon for more news on the Beastie Boys tickets, tour and more.

I, for one, am confused with what is going on with The Beastie Boys. Their official website (and Twitter) hasn’t been updated since September 2009, their most recent Facebook post was in April 2010, and don’t even get me started on their Youtube channel.

In the summer of 2009 they canceled their appearances at Lollapalooza and the Oshenga Festival in Montreal because member Adam Yauch (a.k.a. MCA) underwent surgery to have a cancerous tumor found in his left salivary gland removed.

It’s understandable that the band would take some down time, but it’s been almost a year without so much as a peep from them. Even their highly anticipated album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 has been postponed from September 2009 to ???. Fans were told that it would be out late this year, but now rumors are swirling that it won’t be until sometime in 2011.

Back in July 2009, Yauch made a video for the band’s website saying that he needed “to take a little time to get this in check, and then we’ll release the record and play some shows.”

Hopefully everyone in the band–Yauch especially–is doing well and the album and subsequent tour will be coming soon!

The Beastie Boys have announced that their new album, “Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1,” will be tentatively released this fall.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone (RS), Mike D comments, “We’ve been letting it age, comparing the album to a fine wine. The writing is the growing of the grapes, and we’ve already macerated, and at this point, it’s been living in a barrel and being stored in bottles in the cellar, and hopefully by September, we will uncork.”

This album will mark the boys first full length album of new, non-instrumental material since To the Five Boroughs, released in 2004. Mike tells RS that there is still some tinkering left to do, but the the title of the album is to remain the same, indicating that there will be a pt. 2 somewhere down the road.

Mike warns fans that the release date is still pending, “We make plans and change those plans based on what Adam’s got to do. Our real priority is for him to heal.” Last year, Adam Yauch (a.k.a MCA) revealed to fans that he is battling salivary gland cancer.

Mike D assures fans that Adam is doing well and continuing treatment. We all hope for a full recovery for Adam in anticipation for the long awaited new Beastie Boys album!

Keep checking back for more Beastie Boys news.
